Park(ing) Day 2011

Park(ing) Day is a day-long event to reclaim parking spots and transform them into engaging, people-friendly public spaces for one day a year. Park(ing) Day was founded by Rebar, a San Francisco art and design studio, in 2005 to raise awareness of the need for green spaces in urban environments.  Philadelphia celebrated Park(ing) Day for the first time in 2008 with over 25 installations for relaxing, cycling, creating art, education, and socializing.

September 16th is this year's park(ing) day and there will be nearly 30 park(ing) spots citywide by groups like the American Planning Association, Bicycle Coalition, Redevelopment Authority, and the Mayor's Office of Sustainability.  The event is sponsored by the AIA and DVRPC.

Park(ing) Day 2011 is only 1 month away. There is still time to get a park(ing) space together if you'd like your group to participate. Please click here for more information on how to get involved and a map of confirmed locations.
