Location: Reed Street Presbyterian Apartments (16th and Reed)

New Clean & Green Chairs Are Busy!

New Clean & Green Chairs, Amanda Bauman and Sarah Stevenson have been busy, busy, busy since taking the reins in February. Here's just some of what they and the committee have been up to:

  • They teamed up to visit groups of neighbors participating in the Citywide Cleanup, offering donuts and coffee and spreading the word about EPBN's programs.
  • They made circular-Free Philly registration forms available and over 30 applications were mailed in on neighbors' behalf.
  • They partnered with the Travis Manion Foundation and students from St. Joe's Prep to plant street trees all over the neighborhood.

Great job, Amanda and Sarah! If you'd like to help them with their cleaning and greening efforts, get in touch with them and clean@epbneighbors.org.

ISO: More EPBN Board Members!

Although we're thrilled that we have lots of great, new board members as a result of our February elections, we still have some vacant seats available for anyone looking to get involved:

  • Secretary
    • Writes the monthly newsletter
    • Records minutes at meetings
  • Technology
    • Performs duties of webmaster
    • Maintains social media
  • Public Safety
    • Leads neighborhood walks
    • Attends PSA meetings
So, anyone out there in the neighborhood who might think they'd be interested in any of the following positions, don't hesitate to get in touch with our president, Miguel, at president@epbneighbors.org!

As always, check the calendar on our website for all EPBN meetings and events as well as events that are of interest to our neighborhood. If you have any events that you would like us to consider adding to the calendar, please feel free to email us.

Spring is here! Ways to clean & green the neighborhood

Neighbors!

Spring is here and there are several ways you can help CLEAN and GREEN our neighborhood.

Below are some key dates and deadlines for different cleaning and greening events.

CLEANING!

Saturday, April 8, 9AM - 2PM: 10th Annual CITYWIDE Clean Up!

Visit the Streets Department website at http://www.philadelphiastreets.com/philly-spring-cleanup/ and check if your block is registered. If it is, you can join the project. If it’s not, that's ok! Just come outside on April 8 and start cleaning. The City will pick up all trash collected. Do it!

GREENING: TREES!

Saturday, April 22: Spring Street Tree Planting

Street trees will be planted by neighborhood volunteers.

The PHS Tree Tenders Street Tree program runs twice/year. The deadline for this planting was last fall, but see below for more information about requesting a FREE tree for your sidewalk this fall.

The Travis Manion Foundation is also hosting a neighborhood-wide day of service on April 22. Join us at 8AM at Chew Park (18th and Ellsworth) to help beautify Point Breeze with your neighborhoods and a crew of volunteers. Visit the TMF website for more information: http://www.travismanion.org/pointbreeze/

May 8: application deadline for FALL STREET TREE PLANTING

After you apply, PHS will come to your house, determine whether it’s a good place for a tree, and if so, cut a tree pit in your sidewalk. Then, we (the Clean and Green Committee) will physically come to your house on planting day (November 18-19) and plant the tree for you. You don’t need to do anything but water it, and our Tree Tenders will tell you how.

Visit the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society at: https://phsonline.org/programs/tree-tenders/philadelphia-treevitalize-street-tree-planting
